Welcome to the music of connor koppin

Thank you for visiting my site! I hope you find some music that inspires you to learn a little more about my compositions.

If you’re new to my music, know that most of my writing is concerned with the joys and challenges of being human. I’m most inspired by those parts of life that we share as people, and shedding light on the extraordinary ordinary elements of living.

Equally important to me is considering the natural world, and celebrating the beautiful place we call home. For me, the things that we often take for granted seem to be the most fertile ground for creativity.

The world premiere of a new choral work by Connor Koppin about the relationship between landscape and memory in the Pacific Northwest, commissioned and performed by Evergreen Ensemble.

The world premiere of To Look West, a new multi-movement choral work by composer Connor Koppin, marks a major artistic commission for the Edmonds-based Evergreen Ensemble. Written for choir, string quartet, and piano, the work explores the relationship between landscape and human memory, drawing on texts from early Pacific Northwest voices including author Ella Rhoads Higginson, explorer David Thompson, and botanist David Douglas.

yale glee club: next works

Do you imagine it stopped?

Written as a part of Yale Glee Club’s Next Works initiative, Do You Imagine it Stopped? is written as a new work for the Public Domain.

“NextWorks aims to make the transformative experience of performing new music and working with living composers accessible to all choral ensembles at no cost to them.”

My piece sets a text by Walt Whitman, which speaks to the Earth’s never-ending expansion and transformation. I see this as both literal and metaphorical in that singers should consider themselves to be in a constant state of evolution.
